A Reform and Conservative Synagogue Serving the Rivertowns
Part 2 of 3 (attend 1, 2, or all 3) sessions to get us ready for the holiest time in the Jewish calendar; Each year during the month of Elul, we return to a familiar text that literally means “return”: “Hashiveinu adonai eilecha v’nashuva, chadesh yameinu k’kedem” (Turn us back, Adonai, to you, and we will turn. Renew our days as before!) During the year, we sing these words each time we return the Torah to the ark. We’ll discuss the importance of the text and the various places in which it appears in our liturgy while learning new ways to elevate its meaning through music.
